Art: “Our Justice System”

Art: “Our Justice System”

There is nothing quite like witnessing firsthand a broken justice system. I have observed conduct that was interlaced with corruption, silent compliance, and unaccountability within our government. I have advocated for an investigation into child trafficking activity at a public school in New Jersey since 2009.

Rather than seeing a transparent and thorough inquiry into the concerns raised, I experienced my own credibility and mental state questioned. My efforts to raise awareness were met not with an investigation, but with resistance. My First Amendment right to speak openly about matters of public concern was encroached on. It was not fair which is what the justice system should aim to be.

When confronted with what was profoundly unjust, particularly when it involves our justice system, individuals may feel powerless. In those moments, faith, perseverance, and continued awareness become essential. My hope is that sharing this piece of art will encourage others to remain vigilant, informed, and engaged in their communities.

This piece, titled “Our Justice System,” is an artistic expression of my experience. It seeks to communicate what words alone cannot fully capture. The chains symbolize a government system that is tangled and constrained by corruption. The tarnish represents human imperfection within positions of authority. Through this work, I aim to invite reflection, dialogue, and a renewed commitment to justice and accountability.

Elizabeth is currently studying law to become the person that she needed when she was faced with an impossible situation and chose to do the right thing. This piece is currently at her community college campus amongst law books. This piece is for sale. Elizabeth hopes to find it a home in a law office or advocacy group to create deeper understanding of injustice and inspire others to be the change they wish they could see in our country.
